Kwacha Water Project

Help us bring water to Zambia

Faith Baptist Church Kwacha, led by Pastor Martin Mwamba in Kitwe, Zambia, is one of Resonate’s global ministry partners. In recent months, their community has faced a serious water and electricity crisis—threatening not only daily life, but also the church’s ability to gather, worship, and share the hope of Jesus. Together, we have the opportunity to respond in a practical, powerful way

Faith Baptist Church Kwacha is a local church in the mining city of Kitwe, Zambia. Their heart is to preach Christ-centered messages, disciple believers, and serve their community with the gospel. Week after week, they gather for Sunday worship, Bible studies, and midweek prayer—often under very challenging conditions.

Water Crisis

In 2024, the collapse of a tailings dam at Sino Metals Limited caused acidic wastewater to spill into local rivers and water sources around Kitwe. To protect residents, the local water company shut down service for days at a time. Faith Baptist’s neighborhood has gone months without safe drinking water and sanitation, forcing families to walk long distances or line up at tanker trucks just to collect water. On some Sundays, the church has had to cancel Bible studies and children’s ministries and meet only for a shortened one-hour service because of the crisis.

Electricity Crisis

Zambia is also experiencing a severe electricity shortage. Power cuts in Kwacha often last 17–23 hours a day, disrupting evening Bible studies and midweek prayer gatherings. Without reliable electricity, Faith Baptist has had to cancel some evening programs, and their ability to meet and minister consistently has been severely impacted. These overlapping water and power challenges threaten the church’s mission to keep the gospel accessible in their community.

The Solution

Despite the difficulty, there is a clear, achievable solution.

Water Project

Drilling a Borehole & Storage Faith Baptist has identified a plan to drill a borehole on the church property, providing clean, reliable water for the church family and the surrounding community.

The project includes: Drilling a borehole

Installing a 10,000-liter storage tank on a tower

Setting up a solar-powered pump to provide continuous water

Estimated Water Project Cost: Borehole drilling – $1,000 Tower & 10,000L tank – $3,500

Total Water Project: $4,500

This will provide safe drinking water and sanitation 24/7 for the church and its neighbors.

Solar Project

Keeping the Lights On for Worship To address the electricity issues, Faith Baptist plans to install an inverter and solar panel system with batteries. This will power lights and basic needs during services and gatherings, regardless of national power cuts.

Estimated Solar Project Cost: Solar system with inverter & batteries – $2,000

This sustainable solution will allow the church to host evening Bible studies, prayer meetings, and other gatherings without relying on an unreliable grid or expensive generator fuel.
